Why Sleep Matters

Believe it or not sleep is as important to our health as eating, drinking and breathing. When you sleep, this is the time your body repairs itself, especially for your brain. It’s at this time it consolidates memories and process information. Poor sleep is also linked to poor immunity and mental health issues such as anxiety.

Ten reasons why getting better sleep means a better you!

  3. Can lower your blood pressure.
  4. Keeps your immunity strong.
  5. Can help your metabolism and help lose weight or maintain a healthy weight.

  9. Sleep can help pain. When you’re tired your more sensitive to pain.
  10. Helps make your brain more effective and productive, so getting enough sleep can actually make you smarter!
Things that can help you have a good night’s sleep include:
- Exercise - Taking regular exercise, even going for a walk outdoors can really boost your sleep quality.
- Turning your phone off – At least 2 hours before bed you should not be looking and a screen. Phones give off light so stimulate the brain not allowing it to calm enough to allow you to get to sleep.
- A hot bath – Before bed have a relaxing bath, maybe add some calming essential oils like Cedarwood, Lavender, Clary Sage or Bergamot or one of our great bath salts like our Botanic Bath Salts or Restore Salts
- Diffuse relaxing and calming essential oils in your bedroom. Try our Calm blend.
- Reading a relaxing book can also take your mind off the day and help you relax.
- Lastly caffeine and alcohol disrupt your sleep patterns. Caffeine stops you getting to sleep, I recommend not having a caffeinated drink after 3pm. Alcohol can make you have a restless night and add to anxiety in the night too.
